Abstract: Steroidogenesis participates into different physiological or pathological progressions. Androgen metabolism is tightly related with the development of prostate cancer. The androgen metabolism pathway and androgen receptor signaling pathway are the main targets for prostate cancer therapy. To investigate the function of androgen metabolites and the regulation mechanisms of steroidogenic enzyme activity, it will be helpful to unveil the mechanisms for drug resistance and individual response variation. The related research will also promote the exploration of new targets for drug development and new biomarkers for diagnosis or treatment. This review mainly introduces the steroidogenesis in the progression of prostate cancer, the therapy approaches targeting to androgen metabolism, the related drug resistant mechanisms and biomarkers.
