Defensins and Ulcerative Colitis

Abstract: Defensins are kinds of polypeptides with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, which are involved in the defense against microorganism and are the important determiners of keeping immune response. In the recent years, the defensins have attracted great attention because of their roles in the organism defense system. In this paper, we review the defensins?distributions, structures, the roles in the immune response and relationships with ulcerative colitis as well as their future application prospects.
