Abstract: Variegation induced by mutation in nuclear genes is a powerful tool to study interactions between organelle (especially the chloroplast) and nucleus. It is also of great interests for horticultural sciences. Leaf variegation resulted from mutation of 8 Arabidopsis nuclear genes, IMMUTANS, VAR1, VAR2, CHM, CUE1, PAC, ATD2 and VAR3, has been reviewed. Proteins encoded by these genes and variegation mechanisms related to these genes were presented.
