ICC (intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma) is the second common malignancy of the liver. The incidence of ICC has been rising globally over recent decades. However, the etiology and pathogenesis of ICC are still not fully understood. ICC is associated with low survival rates because of its biological aggressiveness, poor respectabilityand limited therapeutic options. Recently, the association between EBV infection and ICC pathogenesis has attracted more and more attention of researchers. EBVaICC (EBV-associated ICC) has unique characteristics related to etiology, clinicopathology, molecular genetics and treatment compared with non-EBVaICC. Hence, a systematic and deeper understanding of this entity may provide valuable insights for pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies.
