SCI (spinal cord injury) is a devastating CNS (central nervous system) disorder that often results in severe functional impairments. Due to the incomplete understanding of its underlying pathophysiological mecha nisms, SCI remains a global medical challenge. In recent years, the in-depth understanding of the role of OPC (oligodendrocyte progenitor cell) in the CNS has led to the emergence of cell therapy as a promising strategy. Ex tensive animal experiments have shown that OPC transplantation into injured spinal cord promotes remyelination and significantly improves motor function. This review provides a foundation of knowledge regarding OPC-based treatment for SCI, summarizes the existing research findings, and identifies the challenges encountered in clinical applications. It serves as a basis for further research and development of effective therapeutic strategies.
