Abstract:

Ovarian aging is a key factor affecting women’s reproductive health, closely related to decreased fertility and early menopause. Recent studies indicated that alteration of gut microbiota influenced ovarian function and aging processes through microbiota-gut-ovary axis. These findings not only offer a new perspective for exploring women’s reproductive health through gut microbiota, but also propose novel strategies for the prevention and intervention of ovarian aging. This review summarized the recent research progress regarding connection between gut microbiota and ovarian aging, discussed the potential impact of gut microbiota on ovarian function, and the possible association between gut microbiota imbalance and ovarian aging-related diseases. Exploring the relationship between gut microbiota and ovarian aging is essential to enhance comprehension of the mechanisms involved in ovarian aging, laying the groundwork for the development of novel therapeutic approaches for preventing ovarian aging.
