Transposable Element and Its Related Non-Coding Small RNA
LI Shoudao, ZHOU Mingbing*
TEs (transposable elements) are a large number of mobile DNA sequences in eukaryotic genome. The non-coding small RNA has a wide range of biological functions and can affect gene expression at different levels. In many eukaryotic genomes, transposons are important sources of non-coding small RNAs. Recent studies have also found that transposons and their derived non-coding small RNAs play an important role in gene regulation. In this paper, the roles of transposons and their derived non-coding small RNAs in plant and animal genomes are discussed from the following aspects: the relationship between transposons and their derived non coding regulatory small RNAs, the roles of transposons and non-coding regulatory small RNAs in genome and biological evolution. The current research achievements of transposons and non-coding small RNAs are reviewed.
