Research Progress of Pheophorbide a-Photodynamic Therapy Against Prostate Cancer

Abstract:

Pheophorbide a is the compound extracted from higher plant and marine algae. It shows antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidant and anti-tumor effects. As a natural photosensitizer, pheophorbide a exhibits good inhibitory effect on a variety of tumors in combination with photodynamic therapy. In recent years, some great progresses have been made in cancer treatment, especially showing great potential in anti-prostate cancer. The structural characteristics, applications, and the mechanism of pheophorbide a-photodynamic therapy against prostate cancer are briefly reviewed in this paper.
