Abstract:

Diabetes is a kind of metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. With the rapidly increasing characterized of diabetics, diabetes has attracted extensive attention. Chornic hyperglycemia not only leads to damage of the large vessels and microvessels, but also induces CNS (central nervous system)-related complications, significantly increases the risks of neurodegenerative diseases, such as cognitive decline. This review introduces the research progress of DACD (diabetes-associated-cognitive decline) and reveals that the regulatory network composed of autophagy, ER (endoplasmic reticulum) stress, neuroinflammation, BBB (blood brain barrier) damage and amino acid metabolism disorder are important regulatory mechanisms underlying DACD. This review is aimed to provide a more comprehensive theoretical basis and strategy choice for the treatment of DACD.
