Abstract: The transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1 (TRPV1) channel is a non-selective cation channel that can be activated by multiple stimuli, including capsaicin and heat. In recent years, several studies have shown that TRPV1 channels play an important role in cardiovascular diseases. This review focuses on the current knowledge of the role of TRPV1 channel in modulating vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) function and attenuating hypertension.
