Abstract: Human embryonic stem cell derived mesenchymal stem cells (hESC-MSCs) are a kind of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) differentiated from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). hESC-MSCs possess similar properties with adult MSCs, and have attracted extensive attentions for its rich source and good homogenecity. So it is a new approach to obtain MSCs from hESCs. The application of hESC-MSCs avoid tumorigenesis caused by using hESCs directly. So it is a good format to adopt hESC-MSCs instead of hESCs in disease therapy. However, there are several problems remaining to be settled before its application. Here, we mainly described the differentiation, biological characteristics and application of hESC-MSCs, as well as challenges that should be overcome before used in clinic.
