Long Noncoding RNAs: Regulatory Molecules in Mammalian Cells

Abstract: It has become apparent that a number of organisms express abundant amounts of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) that lack open reading frames. Rather than accumulating silently in the cell, recent research has shed new light onto the biological significance of lncRNAs. Here, we highlight some recent advances in our understanding of their important roles in nuclear architectures and in regulation of gene expression in mammalian cells.
