Abstract: Regenerating islet-derived protein (Reg) is a multi-functional molecule and plays an important role in several physiological and pathological reactions. Here we focus on functions of Reg in tissue repair and discuss how Reg induces cell proliferation, regulates excessive inflammation or cell apoptosis, and inhibits pathogen growth and diffusion. Furthmore, we summarize the underlying mechanisms by which Reg responses to tissue injury. Our review provides new insights into pathways contributing to tissue repair, and may ultimately lead to the development of new forms of treatment.
