Abstract: Hepatic stellate cells (HSC) are protean, multifunctional, and enigmatic cells of the liver. Liver injury activates quiescent HSC to myofibroblast-like phenotype, which play an important role in the development of hepatic fibrosis. The study of HSC on the origin, distribution and phenotypic changes will provide a new direction for the treatment and reversal of hepatic fibrosis.
