Abstract: Virtual cell is a brand new research strategy that is sprang up in late 20th century. Basing on the computer-building artificial cell model， traditional scientific research can be conducted in the virtual world through simulating the internal and external environment of the cell. Comprising the advanced research achievement of many scientific fields， the birth of virtual cell has great signification. In this review， we will summarize the development of this technique， its application in biology research， and influence on biological scientists.
