Role of Reactive Oxygen Species in T Lymphocytes

Abstract: For a long time, reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been considered as a harmful metabolite that can damage cellular proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. At the same time, ROS are also known as a phagocytic weapon that resists the invasion of pathogens into the host. However, recent studies have shown that ROS, as signal molecules, play an important role in many signaling pathways in cells, tissues and organs. T lymphocytes are the core components of the immune system. ROS can participate in the construction of innate and specific immunity and the homeostasis in the body through the regulation of proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis and function of T cells.
