Abstract: Protein quality control (PQC) is a surveillance system ensuring the proper folding of newly synthesized protein and degradation of damaged or misfoldered protein. Dysregulation of PQC system has been implicated in cancer, aging and other degenerative diseases. To provide a comprehensive understanding of PQC in human diseases, the role of PQC in cytosol, endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria are discussed in this review.
