Abstract: Vesicular transport is essential for cellular functions. The transport machinery comprises cargoes, cytoskeletal tracks and molecular motors. Among these motors are kinesins and cytoplasmic dynein, which are plus end- and minus end-directed microtubule motors, respectively. This review focuses on the mechanisms for cargo recognition and cargo release by kinesins and dynein, as well as the mechanisms underlying microtubule track selection by these motors. We also discuss the involvement of vesicular transport in human diseases.
