Abstract: Citrus, as one of the worldwide favorite fruits, draws more attention recently due to its therapeutic potentials. Limonoids, citrus secondary metabolites, have multiple bioactive functions, including anticancer, reducing cholesterol, anti-anxiety, antimicrobial, and antiviral activities. In last decades, people are struggling to seek for nontoxic chemo-preventing and chemo-therapeutic agents derived from foods. Mounting evidences support limonoids possesses potent anticancer activities among all sorts of fruits. This review summarizes the current knowledge of how limonoids eliminating free radicals, activating glutathione transferase (GST) enzymatic activity, inactivating carcinogen, and inhibiting tumor cell proliferation. It may pave a way to better understand the precise molecular mechanisms of limonoids anticancer activities.
