The decline in HRV (heart rate variability) caused by high-intensity training can trigger the occurrence of exercise-induced fatigue and has a negative impact on an athlete’s performance. Therefore, timely intervention measures should be taken after high-intensity training to promote the recovery of HRV. As a new method for eliminating fatigue, MHBO (mild hyperbaric oxygen) therapy can improve the function of the autonomic nervous system under the condition of exercise-induced fatigue and promote the recovery of HRV. However, there is currently no review that summarizes the intervention effect of MHBO therapy on exercise-induced fatigue from the perspective of HRV. To address this issue, this study will summarize the influence and mechanism of MHBO on HRV in the state of exercise-induced fatigue, and clarify the research deficiencies in this field and propose research prospects. The research shows: (1) both single MHBO intervention in a normoxic environment and continuous MHBO intervention for 4-8 weeks can promote the recovery of HRV under the condition of exercise-induced fatigue; (2) 4-6 weeks of MHBO intervention in a high-altitude hypoxic environment can promote the recovery of HRV under the condition of exercise-induced fatigue; (3) promoting the clearance of metabolic products such as lactic acid, regulating the secretion of neurotransmitters, and inhibiting oxidative stress responses are the potential mechanisms by which MHBO therapy promotes the recovery of HRV; (4) the measurement methods of HRV need to be optimized, there is a lack of records of adverse reaction events, insufficient research evidence in special environments, and a lack of individual difference studies, etc., which are the problems that still need to be solved in this field.
