The Apoptosis Induced by Insect Baculoviruses

Abstract: During infection， viruses may provoke a cellular pathway leading to apoptosis， a form of programmed cell death. An apoptotic response by the host cell can result in premature cell death or abortive infection， thereby limiting the spread and/or pathogenesis of infection in the organism. Baculoviruses of silkworm also possess two classes of antiapoptotic genes， p35 and iap， which may block apoptosis induced by virus infection or by a variety of induction signals in a phylogenetically broad range of organisms.
